In the late fall and early winter the Elaeagnus Pungens (also known as Silverberry & Silverthorn) produces cream colored bell shaped flowers in clusters which
have a very pleasant Gardenia-like scent that will get your attention from hundreds of feet away. The flowers mature into dark small reddish brown fruits
that have a silvery color and a fuzzy texture. The fruits are a treat for birds and are said to be edible for humans, but they're tart, have a lot of seeds,
and are not very tasty. The underside of the leaves are a silvery color, which along with the fragrant flowers, attractive fruit and rapid wood growth make this
a really good (while generally underappriacated)choice for bonsai cultivation
