If you keep your bonsai collection outdoors and have a dog that's as interested in your trees as you are, this gadget is for you. In the summer of 1998, I completed a renovation of my back yard. I wanted to display my bonsai collection, so I built a 30 foot display table. It didn't take long before Bambi and/or Maxie, my 2 bonsai-loving dogs had pulled one of my prized trees off the shelf & broken the pot in a dozen pieces. That's when I decided that this had to stop. I made some inquiries and found that American Petronics made what I found to be the best "Electronic Pet Fence", so I purchased one. You just plug in the receiver, loop a wire around the area to be protected, put the collar on the dog, and you're in business. The wire can be left exposed, or buried in the ground. The whole thing took less then a half hour. You set the dial to determine how close to the wire (from 1 foot to about 10 feet) the dog can come before the collar activates. If the dog comes too close, the collar beeps. If the dog doesn't back off, it beeps again. The third time it beeps, then gives an electrical "tingle" that is not painful, but the dog doesn't like it. They learn really fast that it will stop if they move away. It's been over 6 years, and my dogs just stay away from my bonsai now. One or two beeps, and they reverse course.
When I got my first 2 collars, I held my fingers on the probes & walked into range. They didn't seem to have much "oomph". The dogs were equally unimpressed, so I called the company. They told me to return them, and replaced them with their new 3 level collar at no cost. The collars are guaranteed for life, the people at American Petronics are so nice to deal with, and the products are so good, that I've decided to offer them on the site. If I had one complaint, it was that the batteries had to be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks, and cost between $7.00 & $10.00 each (we now offer them at 2 for $9.95). There's now even a solution for that. They now offer a rechargeable battery & charger, which can be used with the regular collar.
Both Pet Fences include a transmitter with a built-in test light, 500 feet of wire, 50 training flags, the collar(with battery) & receiver, and an instruction & training manual. The "Premium" fence comes with a rechargeable battery & charger.
